It’s truly hard to believe the transformation of Alton Towers into a more popular theme
park. Located in Staffordshire, it was once a great castle visited by thousands of people
to witness the beauty. But it was transformed into a thrilling ride park and still attracts
millions of travelers around the world.
In 1412 it belonged to the Earl of Shrewsbury who changed it to a major public
attraction. The year was 1890 when it was opened to public to captivate their attention
towards balloon festivals, fireworks and other attractive features. It became extensively
popular, but there have been family disputes due to which all were closed soon.
It was then bought up the local businessman however visitors continued to enjoy the
cafes and restaurants housed within it. In the war it was transformed more into a training
camp than being a tourist attraction.
In 1951 again the Alton Towers took it back. It took twenty years to re-launch for the
tourist who enjoyed the beautiful landscape and other attractions that surrounded the
main area.
It was the vision of John Broome, a businessman which brought changes to the Alton
Tower to use it as the leisure park. The 500 acre park was transformed more into the
theme park for visitors with rollercoaster and other rides. Till today with loads of rides, it
makes all more exciting for the visitors.
Due to escalating popularity, there have been surge in hotels and restaurants nearby.
